The History of Logic and Magic
A long time ago…There was only Magic and Fate, and the One above them. Magic helped the people and animals get food, mates, claim territory, and live. Magic only had two rules:
Never try and explain Magic. Magic is Magic.
Never try and officially tame Magic. Magic, no matter how hard you try, can never be tamed.
And everyone followed those simple rules, because they both feared and respected Magics power. Lightning was the clouds wrath at the ground. Hurricanes were Air and Water combining to destroy people who were bad. The Elements themselves were beings; beings who ruled under Magic and kept everything under control. And life went on as Fate predicted.
But on one little planet, they began to question what the Lightning was made of, or what made Water and Air combine to make the Hurricane. The Elements warned them with their clash of power, and did unexplainable things to this new way of thinking. But when the people there explained it in their own way, the Magic in these beings died. And they began to explain the Elements, killing them with only a matter of sentences. And finally, their planet, Earth, a great holder of Magic, killed every single breath of Magic within it.
Because you see, for every living being, there is something that is its exterminator. And these ignorant, devious people created Magic’s exterminator.
Logic.
Magic, of course, immediately noted upon this fact and tried to stop the new revolution. But Magic was too late for its favorite planet. Earth, later known as Earth One, was finished.
Angry and depressed (for even if only entities, Magic and all those above it still have feelings for those they create and teach), Magic finally acknowledged that Earth was gone. So, with a last downhearted glance, Magic turned its back on Earth, leaving it to its fate. For many years, the ones above Magic consoled it and created new Earths, but none could fill the empty hole that had been where Earth was.
Finally, hoping to bring itself out of this, Magic started helping create another Earth model, one that would was destined to be visited by aliens many times…
And so, for nearly 100 years in Cartoon lives, things were peaceful.
Unfortunately, all of the other entities seemingly ignored a new threat that emerged from the not-soon-forgotten world…
Logic was stirring, arising from the deepest depths and darkest corners, taking hold of women and men’s minds, bending them to its purpose.
When an unsuspecting alien landed on its planet, Logic took its chance and its plan was quickly put into action.
The Cartoon Worlds were about to be faced with the most dangerous foe they had ever encountered. A massacre so horrible that even the One above Fate would be forced to wipe it out of the history books. One that would take many lives, and destroy so many others.
Logic was on the move.
The first planet Logic hit was one inhabited by the alien’s own species. They didn’t know what hit them- How could they?- as Fate and the Deep Magic had hidden their foe for so long from the minds of Cartoons. The one Tainted by Logic blended in with the rest of his kind, but Logic quickly took them down by spreading through their one shared trait- electric brains called “paks” on their backs.
Many died, unaccepted by the merciless Tainted ones who claimed they had seen the “truth” and attempted to force it upon others. They were radical- insane from the pressure of Logic to their Magical-oriented brains and bodies. Some even tried to Taint their children, but one alien almost changed the Fate of their closest planet- the new Earth Four created by Magic. He was about to turn a Fated One into a Tainted when Magic and the Deep Magic stepped in and finished him off before he could successfully do his “duty”.
Logic had already moved on, however, as the traveling aliens it took left and spread to other planets, killing millions with only a few sentences of Logic. Magic could not keep up with Logic, fervent as it was. And so began a seemingly endless war, the clashes of Logic and Magic leaving scarred holes in the worlds and Universe. The Deep Magic tried to step in or clean up their messes, but it was hopeless- not even Fate could stop them, as it was too busy trying to save Cartoons with newly re-written fates.
It may have only lasted a year and a half, but this war had quickly become a massacre. The Cartoons were defenseless in every way- the Tainted looked exactly like them, acted like them, but could turn and kill them in an instant. Even Nightmares, the seemingly non-dying Cartoons, fell to Logic’s power.
All hope was lost, until…
Fate’s Creature emerged, engulfed in flame, from the heavens. His rage, so it is said, was all of Fate’s power in one being. With a single swipe of his wings, he obliterated the Logical army and brought peace and life back with his song.
He screamed, and life shattered under his mighty blow.
But one Logical, a very nasty one, stayed. She was the head Commander of the Logical army; Logic’s pride and joy. She had enough power to take down overloads of Magicals just by looking at them, it is said.
Fate’s Creature, knowing her power, destroyed her in one swoop. Revenge on her mind, with her last dying breath she swore:
‘I will come back…and I will kill you! This I swear upon the River Styx and all the gods and demons below me! I SWEAR IT UPON LOGIC ITSELF!’
A swear made upon the River Styx can never be broken, but it was unusual for a Logical to use a Magical term. Knowing of the path ahead, Fate’s Creature swiped the minds of all Magicals involved, and brought back as many as possible that had died in the war. It unsurprisingly did not take long, as the Underworld was on the Magical’s side (Death took no say in either side).
Then, knowing Logic might come back, the Deep Magic made a new set of rules.
If a Logical kills a Magical, that Logical or another of equal value must die.
If a Magical kills a Logical, that Magical or another of equal value must die.
Whence the Deep Magic set upon developing a system of ‘tails’, if you will. Each tail was a part of the Deep Magic that ran the planets and solar systems, and each human body could take up to fifteen tails before exploding. The number of tails was determined by the Logical’s knowledge and danger to Magicals.
Fifteen years passed, ones of peace and ignorance of the bloodshed that had gone on not too long ago. Survivors of the war did not remember it, however bad it was to them. Only a few Logicals remained, either Tainted Halflings or having gained acceptance because of bigger fates.
A group arrived, one consisting of teens and their parents who would change the Cartoon Worlds forever.
Of them, consisted an interesting family. The wife and father had lived in the Cartoon Worlds only a few years before, but had been transferred accidentally to Earth 1. Their child grew up a Logical, and would later become a major part in all of the Cartoon Worlds, calling herself the "Ten-Tailed Fox", a parody of the infamous tailed beasts of the Ninja World.
However, also among the group was one who had a fate beyond their recognition, one who would bring back what was once thought dead…
Nerak, The Black Queen and the Twilight Ruler.
